Mike Donoghue is a member of a multinational information technology corporation where he collaborates on the communications guidelines and customer relationship strategies affecting the interactions with internal and external clients. He has analyzed, defined, designed and overseen processes for various engagements including product usability and customer satisfaction, best practice enterprise standardization, relationship/branding structures, and distribution effectiveness and direction. He has also established corporate library solutions to provide frameworks for sales, marketing, training, and support divisions.

As it relates to government projects, the definition of project governance encompasses those aspects of authority and control related to ensuring the effectiveness of projects designed for the public sector. As important as it is for those projects in private enterprise, this degree of management is especially needed when confronted with the issues that surround the successful delivery of community projects.
 
As is true in business projects, the main activities of project governance are related to:
  • Program direction
  • Project sponsorship
  • Project ownership
  • Guaranteeing project management function effectiveness
  • Reporting functions
  • Consultation and disclosure with affected parties and stakeholders
While most of the material that is published on governance is applicable to public-based projects, there are some significant differences from what is traditionally managed on the corporate level.

When we think of project authority as well as the parties that are responsible for different forms of procurement, the role of governance comes under higher scrutiny.
