Cloudy Growth

Mike Donoghue is a member of a multinational information technology corporation where he collaborates on the communications guidelines and customer relationship strategies affecting the interactions with internal and external clients. He has analyzed, defined, designed and overseen processes for various engagements including product usability and customer satisfaction, best practice enterprise standardization, relationship/branding structures, and distribution effectiveness and direction. He has also established corporate library solutions to provide frameworks for sales, marketing, training, and support divisions.

Who knows for certain what kind of projects the coming year will bring? While it can be elusive, you can certainly take a pretty good guess by reviewing what happened during the course of this year and see what has gained sufficient momentum to carry over into the next. Sometimes you can see it in the number of exchanges and articles that a subject has generated and plot their popularity over time. Other times, you can easily see an emerging idea move from the closeted workspace of designers and developers and begin to make headway into popular discussion.

Seems a little hazy, doesn’t it? Well, when it comes to cloud computing, what did you expect?

Clouds Rolling In
According to the Gartner 2011 CIO Survey assembled from September to December 2010, almost half of the responding officers identified that they “expect to operate their applications and infrastructures via cloud technologies within the next five years,” pushing them to rebuild their IT infrastructures in a very short time. The strategies captured by the survey for the past year highly rank the need to create new support structures in order to improve themselves and be more effective.

Seeking to bring the relationship of these IT strategies closer to those of business strategies, the respondents ranked the following three strategies as their top three:
