The time has come to create a global PMO nonprofit organization supporting all companies that need to tie their business strategies with their programs, portfolios, and enterprise core business processes.
During the last month, I have stepped down as the PMI-PMOSIG Vice Chairman of Public Relations and now, with help from other PMO professionals like yourselves, form a new "PMO ASSOCIATION". I have resigned from this PMOSIG role because that organization could not reach the much larger potential global membership and also provide the scope of services so desperately needed by organizations worldwide. This new association is not tied to PMI or the PMOSIG.
This is now in the early planning stages with three planning committees being formed. There are three specific volunteer areas where you can become involved and help the PMO ASSOCIATION Planning Committee.
1) Help the PMO ASSOCIATION by collaborating with others to define the many NEEDS a member organization would have where PMO Association services would be required.
2) Help the PMO ASSOCIATION by identifying and developing the services to fulfill the needs identified above.
3) Help the PMO ASSOCIATION build the operational infrastructure for the new association.
Please consider joining us to help build a strong foundation.
I know you will have many questions and we are developing a fact sheet to send, but I wanted to reach out to let you know this new association is underway and would like your involvement.
Please contact me at jim.carras @ pmoassociation.org so we can discuss further.

PMO Association Saving Changes...

Oh brother, another website/blog collecting member and sponsor fees calling itself a nonprofit organization. Push or Pull? To the extent that these things are actually envisioned by users (in this case PMO managers), such an association might be interesting and perhaps of some value. But almost always these kinds of intiatives are embarrasingly self-serving and led by anyone but an actual PMO manager. You even have the audacity to use gantthead to promote yourself, rather than at least first participating in gantthead via any number of gantthead community features such as existing discussion groups, GIGs, departments, blogs or even creating your own gantthead GIG or blog. I am a PMO manager and I doubt the integrity of purpose behind your "Association" and I find your solicitation on gantthead to be innapropriate and shameless...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Saving Changes...

I would tend to agree with the comments posted on March 14 that most of these "associations" are formed for the benefit of a few rather than for the benefits of the many and that many are not actually led by PMO people. But, in fairness, perhaps Jim can make a reply to this post with a bit about his PMO expertise, how many PMOs he has lead and how large, etc. as maybe this one is an exception.
Separately, I also think that making disparaging comments about an organization that the PMO ASSOCIATION will likely ultimately compete with, the PMOSIG of PMI, says a lot. There's a great need for collaboration and knowledge-sharing on the PMO topic, not for pointing out the perceived limitations of other organizations. What good does that serve? Saving Changes...
