Hi dear fellows. I need a word about a point of view of you guys.
I am an ITIL expert and own a consulting business on systems and processes. A colleague of mine wants to apply himself for an eTOM trainning. I studied eTOM by myself a while ago and I see it is a good framework to manage a Telco business. But, as far as I see in brazillian Telco business, none is using it. I think some telecom vendors are, but I can't see a real project running or completed of eTOM (at least in Brazil). On the contrary, I see Telcos using ITIL for managing their systems and with some interfaces to the "Network" management. This is what I said to my colleague. I see ITIL as the ever growing and widely adopted framework and best practices IT & Telecom management methodology. What do you say? What do you see (not only at your own region, but it would be very welcome too) about this "crossroad"; which way to go?
Best regards

Andre,
In the UK I have found ITIL to be the standard most are working to or working towards.
I have seen little exposure to eTOM here in the UK but I do understand that eTOM is merging some of ITIL but not the other way round, so it may gain some headway here.
The main blocker to eTOM from ITIL will be that ITIL is owned by the UK Government and subsequently I think it wil be here to staty in the UK.

Andre,
As I remember from a recent course on eTom in particular and NGOSS in general, they, actually, are not exclusive. There are a number of guidelines and examples how ITIL processes are mapped to eTom.
So to answer your question, IMHO it's worth to go the ideal way and implement both of them.
Cheers,

Hi Andre,
Atleast from my recent experiance with both in Asia, what I found was that ITIL can comprise the bulk of a telco's process, but for implementation of BPMS the eTOM has it's advantages as well in being able to suppliment and support to a bit more detail in some area's where ITIL is not that definative especially with the cross mapping.
