Golden Handcuffs: The Fashion Accessory for a Stylish Career

You may recall a couple of weeks ago, I referenced how increasingly competitive it has become to recruit top talent ("Show Me Your Fringe, Baby!"). One of the ways companies recruit successfully is by providing fringe benefits their competition does not, most commonly know in the recruiting world as "golden handcuffs." They are a lovely fashion accessory to any career move. Of course, there are varying degrees of gold, and I thought, just for the fun of it, we would review some of the "alloys" that make up those golden handcuffs being presented to candidates today. That way you can make up your own mind as to whether you own 24k, 14k or just "gold tone" and how strong those factors would play into your decision to make a career move. Yes, you heard me correctly, they sparkle and shine, but they also lock you in to a certain extent.

Let’s review some of the goodies that can make up golden handcuffs. Some of the packages I have seen today range from juicy sign-on bonuses, full relocation packages (sure, we’ll buy your house for you!), new cars, season tickets to the game or access to the company condos (to use in any of your 5+ weeks of vacation).
