UCI Launches Contracts Management Program
Contracts management, once a job function taken on by general and project managers, is rapidly emerging as a booming career field.
To cater to growing interest in the field of contracts management, the University of California, Irvine Extension has established an online certificate program designed to mirror the in-demand curriculum of its certificate program in “Management of Business Contracts.” A certificate is awarded upon successful completion of five required courses and one elective course; students enrolling in the program beginning Fall 2007 will be able to complete the certificate program by Spring 2008.
Contracts management, once a job function taken on by general and project managers, is rapidly emerging as a booming career field in and of itself. Driving this trend is the move of many companies toward the utilization of outsourcing, international subcontracting and strategic alliances to support growth and more narrowly focus their in-house workforce’s scope of responsibility. Also contributing to the field’s growth is the fact that 50 percent of the current contracts management workforce is expected to retire by the year 2010, according to studies by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and Center for Business Practices.
