The Relevant PMO Workforce

PMO efforts are thankless enough, but if the workforce doesn’t see relevance of those efforts you are fighting a daily uphill battle. It is the workforce that has to execute the ideas and best practices even when the changes are frustrating. Get them on your side by identifying their specific needs and using your PMO responsibilities and influence to respond to those needs.

How You Can Provide It: The PMO provides a process and deliverables that help move projects along efficiently. Of course, everything is not always perfect, so you will have opportunities to make improvements. Your responsiveness to those improvements most relevant to the workforce will make a big difference.

  • Solicit input from front-line workers and their immediate supervisors/managers about what problems they are having now with the process and deliverables. This will allow you to make improvements that prioritize needs of workers on the front lines. Tweaks in form fields, definitions used, additional information captured and redesign of forms--all make a day-to-day difference in the life of a front-line worker. That is …
