Thousands of project managers gathered in San Diego in September to share best practices, network and improve their skills. In a few short days, there was much to learn. In this article, attendees share some of the benefits they gained through meeting others and sharpening their skills.

Leadership Insights from Keynote Speakers
Keynote speakers bring inspiration and insight from beyond the project management world. Project managers have to be aware of the wider world in order to inspire the project team. Here are a few key takeaways that Congress attendees learned from keynote presentations:

  • “Sue Gardner’s keynote on the future of leadership was very interesting,” commented Shawn Kim from Microsoft. “We all grew up with similar concepts of a leader and what traits and characteristics an effective leader would have. However, the business environment is changing; whether it’s due to the millennial influence or the digital age, leaders must adapt to the changes if they want to be successful. I already see an emphasis on transparency, collaboration across teams, flexibility and growth mindsets in successful organizations.”
