Network Like a Leader

We are already into the first quarter of 2017, so how many of you have new clients, a new project, job, contract, or maybe even a mentor or sponsor? Are you working on your career development and stepping out of your comfort zone? Is networking one of your primary goals this year?

Networking will open doors and connect you with hidden job opportunities. Many times, you’ll come away with more than a business card or two. Networking can be fun for most extroverts and challenging for many introverts, but it should be a vital component of your career growth whether you are a small business owner, a project manager or project management office director.

We live in a digital world, so has face-to-face networking lost its importance? There are so many options for busy professionals, so it’s best to plan a nice blend of online and face-to-face networking, immersion meetings/conferences and coffee chats.

Communication is even more important as you move up the career ladder, so shouldn’t you be networking like a leader? You need to get out of the office and put yourself in situations so you can 1) practice your behaviors and skill sets, 2) refine your leadership style and 3) work on building relationships online and in person.
