New Video Series Explores Executive Sponsorship


Senior PMI leaders and representatives from PMI’s Global Executive Council recently appeared in an online video series sponsored by World Finance. The videos cover a range of topic areas, including a discussion on the role of executive sponsorship in ensuring project success

As PMI’s Pulse of the Profession® research has found, the organizations that are most successful in delivering projects tend to do a few things—they actively avoid scope creep, they develop mature value delivery capabilities, and yes, they invest in executive sponsors. In fact, an actively engaged sponsor was found to be the No. 1 driver of project success for the sixth consecutive year.

Why are executive sponsors so important? Doesn’t the toughest work take place on the front lines of projects, not at the sponsor level?

Simply put, engaged executive support is priceless. Actively engaged executive sponsors can do much to ensure that an initiative succeeds. They can use their influence to actively overcome challenges by communicating how the project aligns to strategy. They can remove pesky roadblocks that others don’t have the stature in the organization to resolve. With their consistent engagement and support, project momentum will stay steady and success is far more likely.
