The Secret to Escaping Agile Limbo
As we discovered in my recent article, you already know that you’re stuck in agile limbo. Now it’s time to talk about how to escape it by using the most important tool we have for unleashing the power of your teams: motivation!
I don’t want to just talk about how motivation is important for teams—you’ve all heard that. What I want to talk about is how to motivate your team to exemplify the true why’s of your company. You need to be able to communicate that clearly to everyone. This starts with a clear vision, and it needs to come from above. It needs to be something that motivates everyone to achieve it (your company has a vison, right?).
I can hear you now: “Okay, we have a vision—it’s on the company’s website and is shared in those long, tedious all-staff meetings we have every month. Everyone knows it. So what?”
This brings us to the next step: translate that vision to your teams. The majority of teams I have seen never knew what the company vision was—or how they could contribute to it. How can we change that?
You need to break the huge vision down into real-world activities. Invite your team to think about it during a sprint retrospective by asking, “How did you contribute to the company vision this sprint?” People will start connecting the things they do on a daily basis to
