Richard Cheng from Excella Consulting, Dhaval Panchal from Agile 42 and I (Dave Prior from BigVisible Solutions) have started a new series of podcasts focusing on new topics and current trends in Agile. In this podcast we got together to talk about some of the key topics from the Agile 2014 Conference and the current push for Agile in the Enterprise.

My good friend Daniel Gullo stopped by during Agile 2014 to give an update on his recent trip to India to teach some classes and speak at the Scrum Alliance Regional Event in India. Daniel is also getting ready to give the keynote at the Scrum Alliance Regional Scrum Gathering in Rio. During the interview we talked about his Agile 2014 presentation Raising Agility: Bringing Up The Next Generation of Thought Leaders [Our Children], Homeschooling and Agile as well as important things to consider when hiring an Agile Coach. Daniel is an Agile Coach/Trainer for SolutionsIQ. He is also part of the very small crew of Agile practitioners who hold both Certified Scrum Coach and Certified Scrum Trainer accreditations.
Focused Objective's Troy Magennis is at Agile 2014 to deliver a presentation called Moneyball for Software Projects: Agile Metrics for the Metrically Challenged. Agile Metrics are a very hot topic at Agile 2014 and Troy's approach is footed in something many of us who are statistically challenged (myself included) may find more accessible. Troy has taken many of the techniques used by Billy Beane and the Oakland A's that were featured in Michael Lewis' book Moneyball... (and yeah, there is a movie). In this interview Troy and I discuss his approach and how he's been working with it.
One of the more impressive things Troy has done is come up with a way to use metrics to determine when Scrum will deliver best for you and when you should make the switch to Kanban.
John Rudd is in Orlando this week to give two presentations at Agile 2014. The first, with his brother Charlie, focused on the Agile transformation that SolutionsIQ went through after they made the decision to move to Agile.
The second presentation was on Active Portfolio Management. Portfolio Management is a VERY hot topic at Agile 2014 and there are a variety of opinions about how to address understanding value, and what tools should be used to figure out what to prioritize.

Not only is he the Managing Director of SolutionsIQ, but he has years of experience working in investment banking and financial consulting. John shares his thoughts on which tools from the financial world are best applied when trying to determine what to prioritize in the Agile Portfolio.
I had the chance to visit with Essential Scrum author Ken Rubin at Agile 2014. One of Ken’s primary focuses right now is Agile Risk Management. His presentation “Agile is Risk Management” addresses the fact that if it is applied well, agile will inherently help reduce the risk you would normally see on projects. His approach involves a lightweight way of addressing risk that let’s you reduce your exposure without having to cope with a lot of the heavy machinery that traditional risk management typically involves.
