Rating the relative difficulty of the PMP and PMI-ACP exams
Network:1153

Folks -

I'm interested in learning how those of you who have attained both the PMP and PMI-ACP certifications would rate the relative difficulty of the two exams.

To that end, I've added a new poll which should be available via the Community - Polls link or directly (I hope!) from here:

I would say going from hardest to easiest, PMP, RMP, ACP. I think some of if it is due to the breadth of information. There was a lot of information to cover in the PMP. And I think the PMP had many "trick" questions. The other 2 exams did not have the "trick" questions and were more focused.
I will also say that I was least confident going into the ACP. I was mentally prepared to potentially fail. But I ended up with the highest score of all three exams.
The RMP is one that I really wanted so I had put some extra pressure on myself going in.
And I remember for the PMP I did not want to fail because I did not want to go through all of the studying again :) Luckily, I passed. It was not the best score, but it was passing.

I agree with Dinah Young: My rating is also same
PMP
RMP
ACP

I voted ACP was easier. Not easy, but relatively speaking, it was easier. Much of it seemed very natural to me. (in contrast to some of the rigor for PMP, which didn't apply as much in my typical day)

I will fill in the poll Kiron, even though the moderators are either biased, not doing their job, or too busy and overlooked the fact they they told me once or twice in the past that in these question threads we cannot have a URL in the question even if it's pointing to within this website. And by the way I see no issues with it, but they did and do, so I am only pointing it out now, because like you, it is unsure when they allow it and when they don't, and we are unsure as evidenced by your comment "or directly (I hope!) from here".

I just completed the poll. Good poll Kiron :-)

I wrote PMP in 2005. I though that was tough, until i wrote the PgMP. Now that was an exam that really tested your knowledge.
I found the ACP difficult to access as I wrote the exam during the trial period and did not get my results until the trial was finished.
I have done all of the qualifications and also wonder during the exam if the I have done enough. I have not failed yet.
My Order from most difficult first is
1. PfMP
2. PgMP
3 PMP
4 PBA
5 RMP
6 ACP
7 SP
8 CAPM

I still have time Kiron or at least, I'd like to think I do. I could have completed all the 7 certifications but what I am trying to do is diversify and earn certifications through different organizations that complement and support my career. Having many certifications through one organization is good but not always the best.

That said, yes, the remaining 3 credentials are on my bucket list but not for this year.

So far, here's the results of the poll - let's see if a few more folks will be willing to complete it. Based on the small sample size, I'd say my perception of the ACP being easier is shared by others...

I found the PMI-ACP exam was significantly easier than the PMP exam (5 votes)
I found the PMI-ACP exam was somewhat easier than the PMP exam (0 votes)
I found the PMI-ACP exam was about the same level of difficulty as the PMP exam (2 votes)
I found the PMI-ACP exam to be somewhat more difficult than the PMP exam (1 vote)
I found the PMI-ACP exam to be significantly more difficult than the PMP exam (1 vote)

Ah interesting, but do you know if the majority who felt the exam was a lot easier, actually took the exam before or after the recent exam change? Even though they say not much changed, that may be related more to content than difficulty. I know Rami and I took the exam recently and we both have commented that it was slightly more difficult than the PMP exam. I know two other colleagues who failed the exam (after the change date) and they are experienced Agile practitioners. So perhaps we need more data on the date for Agile exam takers.
