Hello,
I have been working in a PMO(IT) for a long time now. While looking to advance my skills further, I wanted to consider the planning and scheduling path. However, I tried to research and read as much as I can to get to know in depth knowledge before going into it.
What I realized that there not much being discussed about planning an scheduling on web. I often see PMI-SP and PSP certifications being popped up while trying to get into detail but there is practically no guide or discussion on which certification one should choose and why? what are the positives of each certification or how one would be better than the other? Like we have factors which distinguished between PRINCE2 and PMP, do you know the same for scheduling and planning.

Also what would be the best learning path to master the same, for both experienced and newly starting manager.

I would love to have some expert and professional community comments on this to understand better.

Regards,
Wasim.

You need to have experience in project controls and specifically Scheduling. Those certifications are good for professionals who are heavily involved in the controls of the project as they concentrate on specific knowledge areas. You can go through the information on PMI.org.

Thanks Rami. Yes I have worked in Project Controls Team. I will take scheduling as my next learning objective.

Yes as Rami suggests, take a look at PMI and in particular the PMI-SP certification section to see how and when you can qualify for it.

In my personal opinion getting certificatins related to scheduling is a wasted of time. Just take a look to the market. In fact, the problem is not scheduling. Is estimation and to estimate is on the field of mathematics, estatistics and especific method related to industries. On the other side, PMP and PRINCE2 are not matter of comparison The first one is about best practices, the second one is about a method where you will find those best practices are applied in the field. If you are looking for taking a certification, what I do is to make my own estimations on future market demmands.

It depend your career and experience, Before you take any certificate, you should know your career path in your future and search what is your opportunity of your work.

For planning and scheduling, you should have experience of this field before to take certificate related to this field, otherwise these will be no benefit to get these certificates. See PMI website and find what is opportunity as per you career and experinece!!!

Good Luck
