Lenka, Influence is definitely a motivating factor for social engagement on project management related topics. You can gain a lot of knowledge by reading the posts and by sharing your knowledge. I am always interested to see how these topics are helping me. I don't see the scores of the people, I only see the importance of the topic and their analysis.
I'm not sure that the Influence score means much in comparison to the impact that you have on the site. We've got a lot of great content and feedback from people who have relatively low influence scores so I think we should all look past that!
I use this site for sharing knowledge and learning from others. I don't think influence score is very important but It was a motivating factor in the beginning.
I'm here to help at least one person to get better in what they're doing and what I can learn from others. In such a case I influence for 100% or I'm being influenced by 100%. I look at their content and don't care about their influence score. On the other hand, the influence score is so prominently shown that it's almost impossible to ignore it.
In my personal opinion, as any other environments where some scores of kpis are using, it jeopardizes the spirit of the site. Lot of people the only thing that are doing is posting tons of questions to increase the score. What I did from time ago is not answering the questions of that people.
Influence Score is just a number, what matters most is your real influence and contributions. I honestly fully agree with Sergio ... Many are after getting getting higher influence which is affecting the quality of the contributions negatively so I would suggest a more rigorous process for influence increase or just remove it.
Influence is completely meaningless. It's just a trick the site uses to keep people active. It's very effective.
Influencing is a part from PM skills and is very important to lead team to increase project success with comply the ground rules and ethical!!!!
