Can someone with this Project Scheduling Professional Certification let me know how it helped your career? Was this certification an additional to your PMP? Is this something your employer was looking for?

Yes, You can indeed take the PMI-SP without having got PMP-certified.
I've known a few colleagues who have got good career results from attaining their PMP Certification.
