The Need For certified Project Managers (PM Professionals) in Developing Countries
Network:20

The introduction of PMP in Namibia created such a buzz in the industry. During the few past years, it hasn’t been gaining ground in the industry especially if you are just fresh from college or university with Project Management education that was just recently introduced in higher learning institutions.

For one to get a job as a Project Manager or Project Coordinator or let alone work in the PMO Office which are most of the times under utilized or nun existent, you’d have to have an Engineering degree as a prerequisite or anything in that line of field of study in order to land any of the project management opportunities.

But finally things are looking up especially with the new procurement Act or rather (Bill) they just past this year, Engineering firms are required to hire (competent and Experienced) Project Manager for Project Management roles. This requires for high level of PMP Certified or Masters in Project Management, the Challenge with this how ever is, there is little to no much Certified Professionals in this field in the Country hence, outsourcing is the only option. There is a great need for Certified and qualified Project Managers out there.

As a young professional is this field, the aim for joining this community is meet and learns from Great minded people like you and as a pioneer in my community to be able to inspire and influence others in my community to in this direction. There is a lot of potential for great things to start happening in Namibia taking Baby stapes at a time in raising much awareness about PMI-PMP, perhaps by introducing PMP talks in Colleges and Universities and in that way, hopefully start building a community in working towards the Namibian Chapter soon.

PMP's add lots of value to PM & PMO areas, only if the concepts & learnings are applied.

you couldn't have said it bette Rajesh, many at times knowledge gets to be overlooked over experience, the fact that one has experience n doing something over and over, maybe doing it over and over in the wrong way.

it makes sense. The framework of PMBOK let the practitioners apply the principles required for a successful project.

It's good that there's a recognition in Namibia of the benefits of project management certification, but hopefully there is recognition of the need to ensure a balance between tangible experience and certification to avoid companies hiring PMs who are paper certified without "real" experience.

Hi Mr Kiron

Absolutely correct, a lot of my friends are trying to gain enough experience even before they can attempt for their PMP Certification, its vial to have experience in the field in order to appreciate the education and perform up to its maximum required output
