Challenges for PM/Scrum master while working at client place

What are the challenges PM/Scrum master may face while working at client place?
How one should prepare?
Which things he should show interest in knowing?

Is it different if client is a bank?

If you are implementing Scrum as is then there should not be any problem because you work based on agreed scope. Follow the Scrum guidelines and handle the client if they want to deviate from the discussed and frozen requirements for that Sprint. Quite often you will face this problem only that client asks you to implement certain other things which were not earlier discussed for the current sprint. If you can manage that then all other problems like resource, availability of stakeholders, etc. can be managed by proactive steps. Thanks.

Thanks Ajay.

This we can face in our company premises as well. I am more interested, in addition, when one is in client premises.

Milind -

It shouldn't matter whether it is internal or external team members as a Scrum Master operates without authority and facilitates rather than dictates. If anything, an external Scrum Master might have greater influence in getting impediments resolved by key stakeholders as often times greater emphasis is placed on the recommendations of an outsider than internal staff.

The challenge will be in establishing positive relationships quickly with team members and key stakeholders as well as understanding the organizational context and any specific standards or policies within the company. However, the same challenges would apply to an external PM...

...agree with Krion. Two additional points with regards to challenges:
- make sure team really understands the "why" behind agile practices and values
- get empowered product owner in place who "acts like a CEO" for the interest and benefit of the project
