What is the new structure of the project team within the Agile-Stage-Gate model and what are the roles and responsibilities of each team member?

We integrated Agile practices into our Stage Gate model because we have the Stage Model implmented first. The strategy we follow is to think all related to process and governance thinking into architecture then we created (i was in charge of it) a framework where we have high cohesion and low coupling between layers. Then, our Stage Gate model is one and only one no matter the approach and method we use for making things.

Thanks for your quick response. Please, can you elaborate more on this part (The strategy we follow is to think all related to process and governance thinking into architecture then we created (i was in charge of it) a framework where we have high cohesion and low coupling between layers?)
Does the company use the Agile-Stage-Gate model for all stages? Or do they only use it during Development and Testing?

First thing to understand is Agile something does not exist. That is the first step to fail. Agile is an approach (as Lean for example) that you can apply with any life cycle model (predictive or adaptative), with any life cycle process based on those models, with any method based on those life cycle process. Architecture has layers. In case to select a way to do things you have approches as the foundation, then you have models, then you have proccess based on those models, then you have methods based on those process, then you have tools that supports the methods. With that on mind you can convine it in the way best fit for your current situation. For example, in our case, no matter the type of product we have to create, we have five different methods (Agile and non-aglie based) and only one Governance Model based on Stage-Gate framework to control them.

What is interesting is how recent events have and will influence what you talked about here.

Hello Dr. Sergio,

Sorry for sending this in the discussion area, but I could not send you a massage because you did not accept my request yet. My name is Ali and I am currently pursuing my Masters degree at Portland State University. I am a Plant Engineering Specialist at United Parcel Services. My research topic is about the Agile-Stage-Gate Hybrid methodology that has been recently adopted in manufacturing. In this capstone, we will begin by focusing on the new or modified roles and responsibilities that have arisen as a result of merging these two methods. We will then define these roles and responsibilities and study how these changes will affect the communication between different levels of management, including the operational and strategic communication between the project team and senior management. Also we will focus on the company’s vision and goal of adapting this hybrid model in terms of macro and micro management level.

It is obvious that you are very knowledgeable in this area. I have red some of your publications and also from your participation and answering my questions at PM website. So Would you like please to help me to design the survey questions that cover the research topic.

I will be very appreciative if you agree to participate in this research. I have already shared your comments on PM website with my advisor at PSU and he suggested that to reach you out and invite you to participate in our research.

Thanks
