Yes. It works but with lot of exercise, changes, coordination and key documents

Yes it can be done. Are you choosing Scrum for the sake of Scrum though or is Scrum the best choice for your situation?

Scrum is the best choice for my project, but I feel that larger the team, more complicated it is.

Frank, you need powerful software and fast access to inform all virtual team in a different time frame that's your challenge specially if the difference 12 hours you are looking for day v/s night.

Agreed with Riyadh

Besides I use it in a lot of types of projects right now we are using it in a critical project that take place in Venezuela: external and internal conditions are complicated, people is multitasking, three teams distributed in three different countries, challenge time frame due to the need to put the solution in place as soon as possible to keep the operation up and running. And it is working.

Frank -

Virtual is not the issue, but larger could be. If the product cannot be delivered by a single small Scrum team (10 as per the Scrum Guide, but definitely 13 in practice) then you will have multiple teams collaborating together and will need to consider augmenting the guidance in the Scrum Guide with scaling practices (e.g. Scrum of Scrums).

It does, check their Nexus Guide on scrum.org !

The issue is not whether scrum will work. The real issues you identified is the size and distribution of the team. These are challenges for any team, regardless of organizational culture or project framework.

Yes, it works. LeSS and Nexus are good frameworks to get it running.
