Help wih Scrum Certification
Network:37

I recently took the EXIN Agile Scrum Master exam (the online proctored version) and did not pass it (43% score). Prior to taking it, I took the Agile Scrum Master training available through Courses Platform (aka Simplilearn). I thought I had enough knowledge and training to pass the test, but it turns out I did not. I also took the Scrum Assessment first (available at scrum.org) and passed it fine, but it's not nearly as difficult as the EXIN exam and does not cover the same material. I will therefore have to take the exam again. Can anyone out there recommend any books (Amazon?) or other reading material that I can find to prepare for the retake? Any other certification providers I should look into besides EXIN? Thank you!

Sorry to hear. But these little bumps on the path only make us stronger.

TBH, I had not heard of EXIN until now. What was the deciding factor to go that route, as opposed to CSM via Scrum Alliance, or PSM via Scrum.Org? From a recognition aspect, if you had posted the question prior to beginning your journey, I suspect the response would have been to go with either CSM or PSM.

I took the Scrum Master training from SimpliLearn for only $499, which included the EXIN test fee which is usually $260. It looked like a great value and thought I'd be able to complete certification in just a couple of weeks time.

Understood. A few of us community members have written blog entries on our experience with earning a Scrum Master certification. You can perform a search of such and only select blogs as the criteria. I'll share my blog post below....

Like into all certification exams the scores or any other things (for example when PMP results showed above middle) does not matter. What matters is what you do in the real world.

Andrew:

I personally did not take this certification yet as I do not feel I need it or that it will add value beyond the certificates that I already have but in your case, since you do not have any Agile Certifications then it might be a good start. From what I've heard, Simple Learn training is not inclusive of everything required to pass this certification. Please refer to the below discussion thread and it will guide you through everything you need to know about the ASM Certificate including what books to read : (Read the main discussion and comments):

You will benefit a lot from this discussion thread and it will hopefully help you pass your second attempt (I believe re-examination fee is around $250).

You can also find further information via this blog:

Hope this helps - Good Luck and keep us posted as to how you do on your second attempt !
