PDUs for CAPM
Network:1
Hi,
I am new to the PM world. I have had project admin/coordinator experience in the past and was hoping to pursue this as a career. Hence planned to apply for CAPM.
Now My question is how do I obtain the 23 PDUs essential for the CAPM eligibility?
Can I read the PMBOK 6th edition course guide? Will that give me the PDU credits or what are the alternatives available? Please advise.

Hi Ishita!
Nice to meet you!
PDUs are needed after you got a certification, PDUs are a requirement to renew your certification in most common cycles of 3 years; by the way, CAPM certification cannot be renewed, it expires after 5 years, therefore you do not need PDUs to keep it.
To apply to the CAPM certification you need 23 hours of education in project management. So you can take a webinar, a workshop, and also include the courses that you took about project management in the school. The key here is that you have a way to prove that you took the 23 hours in case your documents are audited. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick response Alicia. So you mean to say that CAPM cannot be renewed? In that case, what's the fate of it after 5 years?
Also, I am new to the PM world. I have had project coordinator experience in the past, will CAPM certification help me get pursue PM as a career?5

The idea is that after your 5 years as CAPM you apply for another certification, for example PMP, ACP, PMI-PBM, etc. All of those certifications are renewed. If you already comply with the requirements for PMP go for it! Remember that CAPM is recommended for students of professionals with few experience on project management.

Thanks again Alicia. I have very limited experience in Project Management as a project coordinator and hence I am not eligible for PMP. In that case, does it actually make sense to take CAPM? Does it help to get into the Project Management world? Your response is highly appreciated, thanks alot!

Hi Ishita. I purchased the CAPM Exam Prep Seminar module from Udemy. At the completion of the course, a certificate is issued with 25 PDUs. I also take courses on PluralSight. If you're unfamiliar with either, feel free to message me your email and I can send you an invitation code (sometimes they offer discounts through the invites).

Hi. I sent over the Udemy email. Not sure if the PluralSight one went through. If it didn't, here is the direct link. This is one of my favorite sites. Contains lots of training materials covering a wide range of topics.

Thanks Alyne. Is the Udemy a study material in itself? Will it give me the 23 hours of study as well as prepare me for the final exam or do I need any other resource along with this? Please let me know, I am kind of confused at the moment.

Within Udemy search for CAPM Exam Prep by Joseph Phillips. The course cost me $12. You'll need to complete the course to receive the certificate of completion. The intro for this course provides information about the PDUs and many other CAPM related information.
