What is the most effective way to convince the project team to change
Network:280

Due to the current drastic transition period to more digitization, we are facing multiple obstacles of convincing the team to change their mind to leverage the advantage of digital facilities in their work

Make them want it badly.
Reduce other targets.
Show a vision, let them imaging their role in it.
Inspire, not convince, not motivate, not pressure.

^ Exactly. Inspire. Lead. Help them to understand. The shift in mindset will come through these actions and behaviors. The more you try to 'convince' the more they'll push back

Start with why, involve them in the change, introduce incremental change focusing on highest priority items and ensure you have feedback loops in place to improve the change implementation.

Finally, don't neglect efforts to ensure sustainment of the changes.

Why do you say that digital facilities is an advantage? Why that is easy the pain of the people and mainly the organization? Just trying to add something, perhaps this could helps:

What has worked for us is where we as Leaders took some of the courses - so leading the way helps. Our own knowledge gets better, we can relate to what happens on the ground.

Secondly, we encourage our teams to do certifications - this is in turn is a parameter when we look at career growth/promotion. This is a very good incentive for people to change. Customers dont wait for us to get skilled - some other org would - so we need to emphasize the criticality of learning the new technologies and streamlining the work in that direction for the team.

In some cases, we observed, all these did not help. Then we sort of mandated that we just move to the new platform by a date - this put the pressure back on the team to get to speed. There will be still be laggards despite all these but we need to encourage the team, give them the time to upskill and an environment where they can learn faster.

Try to find what is in it for them if you can - the positive and hold onto it like a beacon of light. Not always possible, but sometimes focusing on that is what can turn the tide in your favor.

Agree with Lori - People respond positively when they know and understand what they personally stand to benefit. Organizational goals, objectives, visions blah blah blah are all great but if people do not understand how that impacts them then it is all just words. Once people get this then they own it and people only support that of which they are a part.

BTW if you cannot define the WIIFM then maybe the change is not needed. Basically what we are then saying is that we have a requirement without a need. Remember that you will always have outliers within a team who does not respond to WIIFM or anything else really but that should be the expection.

You are a sales and marketing person , use some of your bonus money or get your bosses to print some cool t-shirts for the team with a catchy phrase which relates to the digitization.

Sell the change to them as the "in-thing", The "Cool" thing . Like the next generation Smart Phone

If they can readily ditch the current version of their smart phone with a new version just for a couple of "Cool" features , surely they should be able to embrace the digitization as it makes their current work "cool" and "Smart" .

Influence them to "embrace" the "Cool Change" and "Move with the times" .
