Stakeholder analysis can be key for requirements analysis and risk management. Do you typically conduct stakeholder analysis during planning? If so, what template or process do you use?

Template for stakeholder analysis must have valorations of power, interest, impact, influence and level of compromise of each stakeholder.

Stakeholder analysis is done multiple times over the life of the project and ideally will start even before a project commences.

Verónica has identified the usual qualitative attributes we'd want to determine for each stakeholder, and I'd go further by suggesting we should identify current & target values for level of interest and attitude towards a project.

Hi, Kiron,

I found it interesting that you said that we should also identify current and target values. Target implying that we actively seek to steer their level of interest and attitude in a particular direction. I like that idea a lot! Throughout the course of a project we tend to do that anyway through every interaction. Why not make it easier on ourselves and create a goal on paper that we can assess against and change as needed.

Dana, stakeholders analysis is before the project exists. Stakeholder analysis is performed by the business analyst from idea inception and evolves along the project to solution delivery. Some time ago I wrote an article that was published as "best practice" then I hope it helps to somebod (here a reduced version):: https://www.projectmanagement.com/blog-pos...th-stakeholders

Dana,

You need to have it during planning. Many stakeholders have an active role in the execution of the project. According to the quantitative information identified previously, it will influence your schedule.
