I believe those who are not honest as a human cannot be honest as a PM.It is mostly related to general ethics. No matter how many uncertainties and chaos in Project life or in life, honesty is the best policy and in longer run those PMs or individual who are honest in their communication and conduct build trust & confidence of their teams, their client & other stakeholders.
But honesty should not be confused with the politeness, competency, presentation skills, communication & Interpersonal skills for a PM, because sometimes we mixed honesty with non-friendliness and rude attitude of individuals.Yes we can always be honest if we forgo short term benefits, satisfaction or appreciation to longer term success, trust and confidence of all.
Yes. We should be all time !!! .
Honesty is a value, like persistence, courage, and intelligence. it is Honesty that enhances all your other values. But To be totally honest with others, you first must be totally honest with yourself.
You can demonstrate Honesty in anywhere in your life. Honesty is the foundation on which co-workers build relationships, trust, and effective interpersonal relationships.
There are some below ways ,we can achieve this status :-
1- Truth in Selling
2- Integrity in Management Practices
4- Construct a Program of Ethic
Expect the person to have regular conversations that include the honest sharing and recognition of feelings, and the exploration of alternative possibilities of action will help to build a strong bond with each other including team building.
Ask about trusted person's experience with small conversions for topics unknown to himself; acquire the person in-depth knowledge areas and to align the needful interaction with regular discussions.
A SME, experienced elder person, a real good friend or counselor can always guide and help to build the capacity to tell the truth and your strength to bear the truth.
The struggle of being "Honest"is real and ever present in any undertaking in our lives. However, whereas its a matter of personal choice, values and principles we need to realize that honesty actually brings out any underlying issue or problem so that it is dealt with whereas lack of it only postpones a problem if not making it worse.
PMI recommends that we practice, in all dimensions of our lives, the principles contained in the code of ethics.
it's just a matter of consistency
Honesty, integrity, ethical decision making (do the right thing). Simple by words, not always easy in practice. Even so, cannot be at fault for following those principles, though, not everyone will always be happy with what that means.
Generally there are very few human beings who can claim to be 100% honest but over a certain threshold of materiality we should be as we are expected to model the behaviors we want to see from our team members and other stakeholders.
Amazing discussion, and enlightening contributions, thank you all
