HOW TO USE PMP CERTIFICATION?
Dears;

I a m a mechanical engineer with 11 years of experience in firefighting, plumbing, drainage and HVAC trades as mechanical contractor in Lebanon (middle east), a country where all construction works have stopped due to economic and financial crisis.

I have the following questions where I seek your advice:
How can I use my PMP certification as a mechanical contractor...:
1) ... To earn more money rather than just to hang the certification on the wall of my office?
2) ... While most or all PMI and projectmanagement.com courses address IT and civil construction trades which do not have anything to do with mechanical contracting.
3) ... To gain more experience in project management while Project management is not adopted in my country?

Thank you in advance for your time to provide me your feedback.

Hey Ohannes,

Thank you for the valued Question

i share my opinion on your 3 points one by one stating with how you can use the PMP certification whatever your filed?

i belive when you got the PMP you were thinking about you career as a Mechanical contractor ... that what i was thinking about but do you think that you can go out of your domain do mange for example construction project?? this is a fact
when you get the PMP you are capable to manage any projects in other domain interested for you out of your domain as the PM is conceptional more than technical.
1. you can earn money by start new life as a project manager and the rate of salaries is high of course depend on your country.

2. as i mentioned above the idea is the PM is conceptional more that technical so you have to take the concepts and reflect it on your domain.

3. the PM is a window to start be if i can say researcher and every steps or every project that you will manage will increase your experience 100% because you will face many new things.

i hope i covered major points and my feed back is clear

All the best,

Dear Adeel;

Thank you for your time to reply me back.

Please note that I really love mechanical contracting and prefer to get experience in it rather than IT or other projects.

However, finding a job in any domain using PMP is not easy and piece of cake and so far I am unable to do so.

Do you have in mind any companies looking for PMP certification holders?

Thank you in advance.
Ohannes,

have you linked up with the PMI community in Lebanon and Middle East? At least they can give you some ideas what works.

Have you thought about working for a NGO active in your area, e.g. UNOPS (they are headquartered in Copenhagen but work on projects in areas of need).

Dear Mr. Thomas;

I soon shall connect to the PMI chapter in Lebanon and seek their advice on my cases.

However, finding a job with PMP certification in any organization (NGO or other) is not easy.

Do you have in mind any companies looking for PMP certification holders besides UNPOS?

Thank you in advance.
You can look at the neighbour areas whethere there are opportunities and joiniing the NGO communities is another possible option.

A PMP might get you in the door. You will need project management experience to get hired.
Dear Ohannes,
You will need more experience about project management for hiring from employer.

Dear Mr. Reza;

Thank you for your reply.

As I see you are a member of ASCE and I am sure you are using PMP in your domain as a civil engineer. As for me, I seek to find a job in a company as mechanical contractor using PMP in order to gain my experience in PMP; otherwise it will be a certification "hung on a wall" as a decoration.

However, finding a job with PMP certification in any organization (NGO or other) is not easy.
