It's hard to decide on the best reference books but I'd say it was PMBOK Guide and experience with many practical questions on the internet for free. And many contents on websites of PMI or projectmanagement.com were valuable to enable me to pass the PMP exam on a first try.
Rita's book might be helpful to understand key concepts of PMBOK more clearly.
Dear Lewis

thanks for being in touch i would also like to add that another tip is to participate in a boot camp for PMP exam prep , continue practicing the mock questions of Rita Malchey and appear in exam within 15 days of achieving 80 percent marks in mock exam.

with regards

Tariq - Got it... We also agree that a Bootcamp would be useful.

As for myself, I did assist one.
I fully endorse Markus Klein i also did the same way however, with slight deviation i.e. first simple reading of PMBOK, Followed by Rita's exam prep and then again used brain dump and PMBOK to revise.

Ridgely, so just Rita and PMBOK for you! got it...
I have used Rita's book and PMBOK. Bought some exams simulations on pmstudy which are similar to the real PMP exam. Free exam simulations are very easy to answer and do not represent the difficulty of PMP exam.
