Thank you for the examples, Stéphene, I asked it in order to avoid that newbies (like me) think that uses of social media will be something like post on Pinterest the last status meeting. :)
LOL! No Pinterest or Snapchat, Maria. I still struggle with finding an appropriate use for LinkedIn.

(I can't imagine stopping in the middle of a conversation or presentation to micro-blog about it.)

Fortunately, I'm not very interested in Social Media. I'll browse Reddit at lunch while listening to podcasts, and use Twitter as a news aggregator, other than that, I'm on this community.

Its not distracting because I integrate my breaks with my work activities and priorities. It certainly is not a priority. I have plenty of time while at home of on my commute.
That's great. Its all about being productive even in break hours.

I am not much active on social media. I like this portal, as there is lot of learning involved. Lots of good stuff and resources available here, videos, articles, white papers, journals, etc. Time flies when I go through these. It gives me personal satisfaction.
That's great. It means that you keep busy yourself in productive things specially learning. I really appreciate you on this.

I do not call it distraction rather mind diverter and you are in touch with latest happenings.
It means that your work never gets affected by Facebook's frequent notifications. :)

There is a different approach to what it means "distraction" and how to manage it, depending on the country and the team.

For example, I've worked in companies that you don't have access to Social Media as Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn, and people get more "distracted" with their personal phones.

When I've worked in Italy, have more than one break to drink a coffee was a MUST, however in Germany was considered as a distraction.

Nowadays there big companies using Workplace by facebook, then...after some $$ of inversion, it will be worthy or a distraction...Again, depending on the country and the team!
Good to know about trends of Germany and Italy. Yes, you are right . Every culture has its own definition of distraction. I have also worked in such companies where social media sites were blocked.

I totally agree with Maria's point of view. If someone is not focused then anything can distract him or her.
Absolutely right. :)

Like Anupam, I integrate social media usage into my daily work. Many of my stakeholders are social media-driven and, therefore, require me to communicate with them using that medium.
Its true. Like Maria, i also want to know that which social media platforms do you use ?

I don't use social media much so not a distraction for me. I specially don't trust them for information.
What is a distraction? I agree with Maria point of view, in a different place a different view.
Some large company filter Internet, to limit distraction. I had to request exception to gather required information on fish (fishing) for a dam project.
Thanks for sharing your viewpoint.
