As I will move on to a new assignment as an IT Solution Owner soon, I was wondering whether you could give me recommendations for reading and other resources about IT Service Management? I do have relevant technical and operational experience with the concerned solution itself. Any input is highly appreciated! Thanks

ITIL has a basic foundation course/certificate. You can continue with the rest of the courses based on your role; the foundation course should get your started Search for online or classroom courses. Lot of choices you'll have to review and cost out via google.

Hi Naomi,
thanks for your input! I am onto a foundation certificate by self-study, as a first step, currently using this book: Foundations of ITIL v3 by van haren publishing.

Does it sound realistic to go for for a self-study attempt? I realized that most classroom training consist of 2 max 3 days, so I assume I can cover that by self-study just as well...I also went through PMBOK completely by myself for my CAPM certification which I passed with very good results.

Are you aware of any industry associations other than itSMF that might be useful to join?

Best regards,
Kathrin

Kathrin:
Sounds like you do well with self study so it's a personal decision. I'd join associations in which you can volunteer and network with other like minded professionals.

Naomi, thanks for reminding me of volunteering...I have not given that a thought so far....

Like Katrin is saying, ITIL is your best start. It is not to heavy reading, however it is going to take some time to get a grip on the concept of service delivery management. Start with the Operation for direct contact, but it is the Strategy and CSI volumes that help you to understand the real idea behind service MANAGEMENT. Good luck!.
