Is it better to work with a demon you know rather than an angel which you don't know?
Anonymous
I got this unofficial construction procurement policy from my boss. This policy is debatable depends on our ethics, professionalism, quality of deliverables, and work culture. There is no right or wrong, but wise and unwise, pro and cons for it.

As you say, there are pros and cons of the demon/angel approach, both are difficult and a risk but you've got to do one. It almost doesn't matter. What worries me most about your comment is the 'unofficial policy'. I don't like the sound of that. Policies are either something you stick by or you don't. And the 'unoffficial' bit sounds dodgy to me. The very fact you asked the question makes me feel like you are questioning whether you should adopt the unofficial policy or not. Will it put you in an awkward position if you don't?

I got to adopt it as it a direct order from my functional manager. Yes, I m in an awkward position. Perhaps he is going to slap me with another warning letter if I don't.

I cant suggest the right thing without knowing your situation and organization type. Hope your Manager is not proprietary too...

Did you ever expressed your concerns your to Manager?
Do you have a path to escalate the issue?

No,he is not proprietary. Come on,he is the proponent of working with a devil we know, rather than an angel we don't know.

Yes,but why wanna escalate the issue? What's the issue here? He got a point too right?
