From my point of view a good example for technical dependencies is the digital transformation, where you have dependencies from pure HW sizing up to app-development:

Technical dependencies are the ones that are technical in nature. Example: File coming from a different source system(A) to B without which B cannot process the file. Group B cannot complete their piece of code without Group A completing their code. These are all tasked out on the project plan and made as start to finish dependencies.

You have to understand that technical and mandatory dependencies are not mutually exclusive. A technical dependency may be mandatory or optional. A mandatory dependency may be technical or not.

Mandatory dependencies are those you must abide by, come what may. They are often contractual or legal in nature.

Technical dependencies are usually because of different activity owners. For example, you may be unable to compile your code until another developer is done of hers. Or you may have a limited number of licenses forcing you to share amongst developers.

Hi, A dependency between 2 technical activities can be considered as a technical dependency. It could be mandatory or discretionary. Why do you think they can't be mandatory?
