Scrum for SAP implementations.

This is a very interesting development for several reasons.

SAPActivate is closely linked with the SAP HANA technology, evolved from ASAP and it is also related to the fact that SAP software is far more granular than compared to the old SAP R/3 times. SAPActivate takes advantage of Best-Practice Solutions and Rapid Deployment solutions with guided configuration. SAPActiviate is a hybrid model that embraces agile practices. One key target of SAPActivate is to support the earlier visualization of solutions using design thinking and prototyping as compared to earlier times when it took too long to see tangible results.

Thanks for your insightful article, Jarlei. I agree. SAP and ASAP have been so Waterfall-friendly for 20 years. It's tough to implement SAP originally as 100% true Agile. I can see after SAP implementation, small enhancement projects could possible be more Agile-friendly if well-managed. However SAP is so integrated that good PM is necessary. Thanks for your insights.

Oi Jarlei, Muito obrigada por toda suas ideas. Tenha um dia maravolhoso!

You´re right, the big point is a PM with expertise and experience, but when you start with Activate, you will see that is very easy to manage the project and put the team to work together. The SAP RDS methodology was the first approach to use an agile way.

Is SAPActivate meant for new installs of SAP only or can it be used in a migration to SAP Hana?

Yes, you can use this new approach to new implementation, migration, or even just a new module, for example. But is possible to use considering SCRUM or not, this is a good point of discussion. The team must be prepared to use Scrum or Kanban (now I am using Kanban but depend on the team expertise and maturity). SAP has two way to explain activate - ACT100 course just Activate and ACT200 Activate+ Scrum. So, Activate without scrum is like RDS Methodology approach, better than ASAP, in my understanding, but the team must understand the differences and accept the new way together with the users.
