This certification is new to me.

What are the details of this certification Drake

Do you mean Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP)?

As an IT person I know the value of this certification especially for systems security professionals, but not sure about the value in project management. Anyway it depends on the industry and domain you are working.

Here is more info on the certification.

Thanks Anish for update

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is an independent information security certification granted by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, also known as (ISC)².
That's what Google says, but I am still not sure what area it covers.

Hi Drake, First let me share some inforamtion about CISSP Certification and then i will try to explain its relevance to both PM and projects dealing with sensitive and confidential business information.

CISSP (Certified Information System Security Professaional) is one of the most reputed and most sought after Information Assurance and Cyber Security Certification from (ISC)2 inc. - a US based international, nonprofit membership association and arguably one of the world’s largest body of Information Security Experts and leaders. In simple language, CISSP has the same relevance and recognition for Cyber Security Management and leadership what PMP certification has for Project Management. The CISSP certification will have most value and recognition for a Cyber Security professional and practitioner especially working in some senior level or C-level position such as CISO, CSO, CIO, CTO having direct responsibility in managing and leading Information Security related projects and operations or projects dealing with or producing some critical and confidential business Information and Information processing facilities.

I believe that in projects that deal with or produces/develops sensitive project information during the project lifecycle, it becomes imperative and absolutely essential for the PMO, PM and PM team to ensure that all sensitive/confidential project information, assets and outcome are protected completely at all levels and stages and often in such sensitive projects PMO/PM/PM Team all may be contractually bound to maintain Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability commonly known as CIA triad of all sensitive project information, project assets, products or results created by the project.

So, it may help a business or PMO in assigning a Cyber Security related project or the projects that involve handling and management of critical Information assets and Information processing facilities to a PM who possess CISSP or some other similar cyber security certifications/qualifications along with necessary Information Security experience ensuring CIA triad of all critical and sensitive Information assets and processing facilities used in a project or affected by the project outcome are properly maintained throughout the Project life cycle especially if project deals with critical information assets, PII and critical Information processing facilities especially those owned by federal entities.

I strongly believe that since today Information is one of most important asset of any business and Projects undertaken by it, therefore having some level of subject matter awareness, experience will always be an asset for a PM and his/her team and having certifications like CISSP will give necessary confidence to all key stakeholders including customers and sponsor that their critical information assets and information processing facilities produced or used during such business sensitive projects will be duly protected throughout the project lifecycle.

Thanks Rohit for informing on CISSP, really informative for me

Good explanation on the value of a CISSP certification. Thanks Rohit.
