Do you prefer to work in an Organization with a PMO?

I created a poll - https://www.projectmanagement.com/polls/43...ion-with-a-PMO-

Cast your vote and let's discuss the Pro's & Con's.

I'm flexible and can work in any environment.

If no PMO exists, I will make recommendations to run successful projects.

If a PMO exists, I will contribute to making it better and better.

I prefer to work outside of a PMO. I find PMOs often contain needless bureaucracy that hinders me. There are doubtless many effective PMOs out there, but I haven't yet had the good fortune to work with one.

Yes, that is the downside of some PMO's when they are full of bureaucracy defeating the good it could have delivered to the organization.

This is a good discussion. I often encounter that the role of a PMO, although it is extensively described in several academic and non academic references, finds some difficulties to add value to the organization. It would be interesting to learn from PM or PgM who have worked with PMO how they have managed this and ensure satisfaction of their PMOs.

Since I am working on setting up a PMO at my organization my answer would be yes. We need a PMO to support our project managers. Currently people are contacting the project managers directly asking for new projects which has cause them to overcommit. There have been many projects that the managers have worked hard to complete and were never used. Projects with low ROI's are being worked on first.
Our goal is to set up a PMO to funnel all of the projects and prioritize them in addition to making sure there is a budget in place.
