Should PM's post a bond to guarantee a certain level of performance?

I don't think it will happen (yet) but imagine if a company or client asked you to put up a bond (say 10% of your salary/fee) as security for making sure you meet the mutually agreed upon KPI's set out in the employment or contract document. Would you agree?

I'd do a quick mental EMV calculation on the expected outcome given the likelihood of success and then decide...

If I was asked to do this before doing a sufficient level of planning then I'd likely walk away unless the salary or fee was enough to cleanly cover the cost of failure.

I would definitely try to gather as much information as I can about the organization, its people, its reputation, values, working environment, and culture, and then decide.
