With over 25 years of managing complex systems integration and software development projects, Kevin Aguanno is known in the industry for his innovative approaches to solving common project management problems. He focuses on two project management specialty areas: agile project management and troubled project recovery.

He is the past Agile Centre of Competency Lead for IBM and was a Solution Manager for its Canadian Portals/eForms/eCommerce/Web Content Management practice. He is also the past Executive Producer of IBM Canada’s Interactive Media Studio, and Principal Consultant of IBM Canada’s Media & Entertainment Industry unit.

As a well-known keynote speaker, trainer, and coach in agile management methods, Aguanno has taught thousands of people how to better manage high-change projects by using techniques from Scrum, Extreme Programming, Feature-Driven Development, OpenUP, and other agile methods. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and private corporate events where he delights audiences with practical advice peppered with fascinating stories from his own experiences in the trenches practicing agile project management. He has taught for several years at the University of Toronto where he won the coveted SCS Excellence in Teaching Award, teaches at the University of Waterloo, Dalhousie University, and University of Wisconsin, and is a guest lecturer in software engineering and project management classes at several other universities.

Kevin Aguanno holds a B.A. from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master’s in Project Management from the School of Business and Public Management at George Washington University.

Active in the project management community, Mr. Aguanno is an active member of the Project Management Institute (USA) where he holds both the Project Management Professional (PMP) and the PMI Agile-Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) designations, the Association for Project Management (UK), and the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC-AGPC) where he is a founding director, the current President, and a PM competency assessor. He is also a First Assessor for both the American Society for the Advancement of Project Management (ASAPM) and PMAC where he performs project management competency assessments using the IPMA model. He is also a member of the Agile Alliance and the Scrum Alliance, who awarded him with the Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) designations. With a Level-B (Senior Project Manager) competency accreditation by the International Project Management Association (IPMA) and IBM’s own competency certification as an Executive Project Manager, Mr. Aguanno is experienced with many project management methods including IBM’s Worldwide Project Management Method, Rational Unified Process, Scrum, OpenUP, and PRINCE2, among others.

Kevin Aguanno is the author of over 30 books, audiobooks, and DVDs in addition to a number of articles published in magazines and journals worldwide. Mr. Aguanno is the editor of the Project Management Essentials Library series of books and the Project Management Audio Library series of audiobooks published by Multi-Media Publications Inc. and he is the past editor of the Element-K journal Inside Project Management.

In recognition of his contributions to the project management community, the Association of Project Management (APM) in the UK awarded him as a Fellow of the APM (FAPM). Additionally, the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC-AGPC) honoured Aguanno by making him a Fellow (FPMAC).
