After nearly 24 years in healthcare, I recently retired from MUSC. While there I led the Service Delivery team within their Information Solutions group. Service Delivery includes the IT PMO, business analysis, web content, service desk, and technology store.
I have been the proud owner of PM One, LLC (www.pmone.net), a leading project management training and consulting company, since 2005 but I am now committed to PM One full time, serving as a consultant to assess and improve PMO maturity and by providing interim leadership roles in the technology field.
I am a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Certified Scrum Master, and a HIMSS Fellow (FHIMSS).
I earned my doctorate from the Medical University of SC and hold an MBA and a BS in Computer Science. I am also a graduate of the 2008 PMI Leadership Institute Masters Program offered through PMI and the 2022 CHIME CIO Bootcamp -- an amazing experience -- where I am enhancing my CIO level toolkit.
Being in the industry for a while, I have over 35 years of IT experience, with over 30 years pf experience overseeing projects.
I feel that we should all give back to the profession, and as such I have served on The Citadel's Masters in Project Management Advisory Committee, Walden University’s Project Management Advisory Council, and taught within The Citadel’s Masters in Project Management (MSPM) program. I also taught within the MUSC College of Nursing's doctorate program and I have guest lectured at Yale's doctorate of nursing program annually since 2013.
I was fortunate enough to be featured in PM Network in December 2012 regarding a project I managed, and appeared again in December 2013, December 2014, and June 2015 on the topic of PMOs and team building topics. You may find my 2019 PMXPO presentation on "The Right PMO for YOU!" to be interesting (you can find it here on ProjectManagement.com).
I am an adjunct faculty member at MUSC’s College of Health Professions, where I teach Healthcare Project Management and Systems Analysis & Design courses within their Masters program. I hold an Affiliated Faculty appointment with the College of Charleston's Computer Science department. I am a Contributing (adjunct) Faculty member within Walden's Masters of Program Management program where I teach Enterprise & Project Risk Management.
I was honored to co-author a text in 2013, Healthcare Project Management (1st & 2nd editions), with best-selling author Kathy Schwalbe. I also published a take-along PMP study reference, "PMP Exam Last Chance Review", in late 2013.
I try to remain actively involved in the local Project Management Institute chapter where I have served on the board from 2005 to present and am currently serving as the Exec Vice President. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences on the topic of Project Management, Healthcare Technology, PMOs, and Healthcare Analytics, and has served as a PMO SME for ProjectManagement.com & PMI at four national PMI Congresses.
