Once the work breakdown structure and the schedule are defined, this document can be used to plan and monitor the costs for each individual activity or work package. This template lets you subdivide an activity or work package into smaller parts (cost items). For each of these cost items, you can plan the corresponding costs in detail.
The Budget Template Workbook includes: a cost estimate sheet to document your initial cost assumptions, a planning template to help you take a detailed look at planning costs, and a tracking template to track actual costs against budget and document reasons for variances. It's a great planning and communication tool to help you stay on top of project finances.
Use this tracking sheet in conjunction with the Budget Tracking-Actuals project plan to stay on top of your budget.
Keep track of your budget with this year-long template.
The drafting of a project budget always starts with a technical estimate of the quantities of materials, manpower hours and equipment needed to carry out the project. This system allows the project engineer to make estimates as they see fit, and the project manager to draw up the budget according to the detail most suited to project management.
Project bugs and the forecasting of progress can be complex. An Excel spreadsheet can be employed to gauge the progress of the testing and resolution teams. Using this simplistic method in conjunction with test-estimation techniques can help the project manager determine the completion date for testing efforts. Use this template in conjunction with the article Software-Simplistic Prediction Model for Bug Forecasting.
Many organizations collect mountains of data that produce negligible benefits. But a well-run measurement program can provide huge ROI, from more accurate cost and schedule estimates, to streamlined processes, to better insights and decision-making. Here are seven guidelines for building and maintaining a metrics program that delivers value to your organization.
Are you building a new software system? Use this checklist to keep track of your progress as well as to make sure you don't forget any important steps along the way.
How much will this project really cost? A realistic budget is key to keeping control of the project. Here's how to put one together.
