In the Digital Fray, Don’t Just Converse. Collaborate Inclusively.

presentation
by Chivonne Algeo, Katrina Pugh

With the move online, we could just begrudgingly endure the meetings and emails. Or, we could build trust, inspire team cohesion, and drive astonishing impact. When we move from in-person work to virtual (or hybrid) work, our communication frequency, structure, participation, and even content change. We risk wasting time in misunderstanding, false-agreement or rework. The Four Discussion Disciplines (4DDs - integrity, courtesy, inclusion and translation) are practices teams can use on email, in meetings, or in posts to address this. In this session, Katrina Pugh (Columbia University, New York, NY) and Chivonne Algeo (Monash University, Melbourne, Australia) will discuss how to lead the 4DDs with your teams, across your organization, and with partners to improve meaning-making and relationship-building.

How Digitalization Affects Project Management – Evidence from Two Case Studies in the Construction Industry

presentation
by Timo Braun, eskil ekstedt

Digital transformation is a phenomenon occurring across sectors and nations, affecting not only technical processes, but also organizational forms and managerial practices. Among them are: (1) project-based organizations (PBOs), common in traditional sectors like the construction industry, and (2) project networks (PNWs), the most favorable form of project organizing in modern service and creative industries. Project management, which is often used as an agent for change, plays a significant role in initiating and implementing digital transformation. To analyze the digital transformation of traditional PBOs and modern PNWs, comparative case studies in the context of commercial construction have been conducted in Sweden and in Germany.

Sustainably Smarter: How PM Knowledge Networks Improve Skills

We also explored the role of networks in providing mutual support for 'members' and as a coordination mechanism for the project. The outcomes of the study will help project staff, and their organizations, to understand practical network design strategies and behaviors to transfer and manage knowledge across and within different project environments.
