Rescheduled: The Agile Enterprise: Can we teach the old dog new tricks?

Oct 2, 2020 9:00 AM EDT (UTC-4)
PREMIUM webinar

Nowadays, agile is a very trendy topic, and there are over a hundred certifications and thousands of courses teaching you how to be Agile, usually by learning a framework. Like any other skill or expertise, mastering Agile requires more than a course and the guide upon which it is generally based. Scrum, the most used Agile framework, is described by its authors as "lightweight, simple to understand but difficult to master," and any practitioner with more than a couple of years in the Agile trenches knows that is neither simple nor easy. This webinar is a collection of real life situations where traditional teams moved to Agile frameworks. The webinar is an analysis of the human aspect of transitioning to a new way of working in parallel with learning new technologies, products, and programming languages while last but not least having the management pressure to deliver.

Re-scheduled: The Agile Enterprise: From Agile Teams to Agile Organization

Feb 1, 2019 9:00 AM EST (UTC-5)
PREMIUM webinar

Agility continues to be a highly discussed subject. The success of using Agile approaches, mainly Scrum or similar frameworks, has organisations and managers thinking of replicating its success at the department level and even at the organisation level. In addition to popular frameworks and practices associated with Agile there are new roles (Agile Coach, Scrum Master) or traditional roles that were re-branded Agile (Agile Project Manager, Agile Business Analyst, Agile Tester, etc.) that should support the transition to a new kind of organisation, called "Agile Enterprise". This webinar looks at Agility at the Enterprise level from a Project Manager perspective, explaining the difference between the new Agile Enterprise (a top down Agile approach) and Enterprise Agile (the bottom up Agile transformation) that is scaling popular Agile frameworks from team level to organisation level.

Rescheduled: The Case for Project Risk Management: In Predictive (Traditional) vs. Adaptive (Agile) Life Cycle Approaches

Nov 21, 2019 12:00 PM EST (UTC-5)
PREMIUM webinar

Although the project failure rate has seen improvement over the last decade or so, roughly half continue to fail. As such, project risk management [which is designed to address risks that contribute to project failure] has gained significant interest over the same period. While perhaps one of the more challenging knowledge areas of the PMBOK®, project risk management is a key competency for professional project managers. This webinar will contrast project risk management across today’s two primary project life cycle approaches – Predictive (Traditional) and Adaptive (Agile) Project Life Cycles.

Research Management - Techniques in Early Maturity Exploration

Mar 24, 2016 12:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)
PREMIUM webinar

A great deal of project and program management is focused on development, operations, and maintenance efforts. Looking at a Technical Readiness Scale (TRL) most projects fall into TRL 5-9, the more mature end of the scale. There is, however, portfolio, program and project management at the earlier TRLs that address early engineering (TRL 4/5), research (TRL 2/3), and fundamental science (TRL 1/2). There are significant differences in risk, personnel, stakeholder and other areas requiring management. This webinar takes a look at portfolio, program , and project management in these early TRLs in with the goal of eventual commercialization and movement of science to product or service.

RESHEDULED: From Managing Scope to Achieving Business Results

Oct 6, 2020 2:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)
PREMIUM webinar

PPM (Project and Portfolio Management) professionals face the need to change focus, from controlling the delivery of scope to achieving business outcomes. The tools and approaches that have been used for PPM will simply not work in a future that has already arrived. The adoption of agile, increased investment in digitalization, and the need for speed and agility are creating the “perfect storm” predicted by Gartner, Ignoring these trends is not an option. PPM professionals have to change focus, from scope to business outcomes, from the reduction of uncertainty to embracing and leveraging uncertainty, encouraging innovation, and systematically executing strategy towards the realization of financial value. This presentation presents a framework that focuses on business outcomes, instead of scope, as the unit to plan and track, from project to portfolio levels. This way, funding is allocated to outcomes, and delivery is tracked based on its impact on planned impact to outcomes. The session presents a number of tools and techniques that can be used to build a portfolio management framework that focuses on business value and treats projects as investments. This includes how to plan and track benefits for agile projects. Finally, the session explores the cultural aspects involving in this change in perspective and how current traits found in organizational cultures explain the status-quo. The session presents the values that are fundamental to succeed in implementing an outcome-driven organization.

Resilient GRC: Tackling Contemporary Challenges with a Robust Delivery Model

May 9, 2024 2:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)
PREMIUM webinar

Managing GRC is increasingly challenging due to complexities and regulatory demands. Current GRC challenges involve rapid regulatory changes, technology integration, and global complexity, requiring resilient strategies for compliance, risk management, and governance. A resilient GRC model leverages technology and data analytics for proactive risk identification and response to regulatory shifts. Granting autonomy to GRC functions, particularly emphasizing enterprise-wide compliance, enhances resilience, and adopting a comprehensive model aligns risk management with business objectives, streamlining processes and improving decision-making

Resolving Agency Issues in Client-Contractor Relationships: The Use of an Award Winning Teaching Case Study

Aug 11, 2020 11:00 AM EDT (UTC-4)
webinar

The case study on resolving agency issues in client-contractor relationships was the winner of the 2019 DSI PMI Instructional Case Writing Competition. The author will present some theoretical background on the use of case studies in teaching and then introduce the case study itself and outline its potential use in online settings. The case study focuses on the management of relationships which has been acknowledged as a crucial element of project success. However, agency related issues such as goal conflict, information asymmetry or opportunistic behavior can make relationship management a real challenge. The program managers for One Global Headquarters at Merck developed their own way on how to deal with this challenge in a complex and uncertain environment. This case study will provide unique insights into their approach and motivation.

Rethink Requirements - The Natural Language Processing Approach

Jul 12, 2016 1:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)
PREMIUM webinar

According to PMI’s Pulse of the Profession, “When projects do not meet their original goals and project objectives, inaccurate business analysis/requirements management is cited as the primary cause 47% of the time.” And the increasing scale and complexity of projects is making it extremely difficult to assess and verify the project requirements. As a result - a huge amount of critical errors in project and systems development arise in the initial concept & design stages. In this presentation and workshop, we will focus on how harnessing automated computational tools utilizing Natural Language Processing can help project managers ensure their requirements are consistently clear & are a joy to work with. These project managers, business analysts, engineers and by extension their clients, will benefit in the earliest stages of a project to ensure poorly written requirements do not infiltrate later project stages leading to reduced stress, increased confidence and higher project success.
