by Scott Bain
October 31, 2023 | 55:04 | Views: 32,473 | PDUs: 1.00 | Rating: 4.64 / 5

When writing Acceptance Tests, we respond to requirements and essentially turn them into scenarios that can be specified, tested, and then implemented. However, sometimes requirements are stated in a way that make the scenarios too large for effective testing and development. This webinar will investigate why this is, suggest techniques that can be used to decompose them into smaller scenarios, and demonstrate this using a real-world example of a complex business rule.

This webinar introduces an article, “In Search of Project Management Principles”, recently published in the Project Management Journal, PMI’s research journal. The objective of the article is to determine whether a set of project management principles can be identified to serve as a common framework for developers and publishers of project management standards and guidelines. Twenty-two project management standards and other consensus documents were reviewed, revealing a common understanding across the globe of the requirements for effective project management. Potential statements of principles were extracted, clustered into four categories, and 12 principles were found to be common to multiple sources. These 12 principles were rewritten in a pre-specified, consistent form. The authors hope that this set of principles will serve as a common basis for future standards and guidelines on project management.

The Role of Design in Agile Projects

by Scott Bain
September 19, 2023 | 61:20 | Views: 27,087 | PDUs: 1.00 | Rating: 4.66 / 5

In the systems development traditions of the past, most people adhered to the concept that development should be done in discrete phases. These were typically sequential: analysis, design, implementation, and testing, often referred to as "the waterfall". Agile processes reject this notion almost entirely, and so one question that often arises is: if there is no design "phase", when does design happen? Is there a role for design in an agile process? This webinar will address this question and introduce the concept of an "emergent" design process. This will be an overview, with no technical knowledge or experience required.

Beyond comprehending the implications of each trend, project professionals are being challenged to help devise and implement value-oriented solutions that will ensure organisational sustainability. July 28, 2023 | 61:09 | Views: 43,264 | PDUs: 1.00 | Rating: 4.51 / 5

Project portfolio management (PPM) has since the 1950s offered principles helping us to act in PPM-related situations. In this study, the author(s) consolidated the knowledge accumulated over seven decades of PPM research. By reviewing this extensive body of work, they have identified 17 PPM principles grouped into four distinct categories. These principles have significantly shaped how organizations understand PPM. To facilitate practical implementation, they developed a framework that allows organizations to evaluate their adherence to these 17 PPM principles. This framework serves as a valuable tool for organizations, enabling them to identify areas where improvements can be made, thereby enhancing their PPM practices.
