According to recent reports, Generative AI will have a drastic impact on not only what we work on, but how we work together – especially when it comes to project management. In fact, according to the 2023 PMI Annual Global Survey on Project Management, the top three ways project managers use AI are reporting (34%), decision support (33%), and communication (26%). So, what does this mean for the next generation and how can we help prepare them for the impact of AI on their personal and academic lives? Destination Imagination, a project-based student driven STEM program and partner of the PMI Educational Foundation, is focused on creating competitions that encourage students to think out of the box to solve the problems of tomorrow, today. Over the last few years, the organization has launched many compettions, including one with Lumen focused on how students could use AI to solve the problems of tomorrow.

Project management may not leap to your mind when you think of the action-packed world of F1, but its application is crucial to ensuring teams stay on task, deliver on time, and work within those all-important cost caps. And The PMI Educational Foundation is proud to partner with F1 in Schools, an international STEM competition for school-aged children, to help students learn and understand the impact project management has in the motorsport industry, and beyond. Since 2019, the Foundation has worked with F1 in Schools to embed project management into its curriculum, ensuring students are taught the principles of the discipline, before putting into practice across their project, and showcasing their learnings and workings at competitions.

Entre un biais pour l’espoir et un biais pour le désespoir : une lecture comportementale de la performance des projets
La performance des grands projets défraie souvent la chronique le plus souvent à cause des dépassements de coût et des retombées en deçà des attentes. En effet, les projets ont tendance à avoir un « comportement » compliqué voire « une vie » difficile. Dans une perspective de systèmes complexes, le comportement d'un projet est l'étude de la manière dont les projets prennent des tournures différentes et complexes entre leur lancement et leur exécution, ou connaissent des déviations systématiques par rapport au plan. Cet exposé met en scène deux personnages clés du récit du comportement des projets. Les Pollyanna ont un penchant pour l'espoir et considèrent que les projets peuvent, contre toute attente, réussir malgré les défis auxquels ils sont confrontés. Ils associent la dérive des projets à des erreurs de gestion plutôt honnêtes, mettent de l’avant « l’erreur » comme la source du mal c’est-à-dire des facteurs tels que les changements à l’envergure, la complexité et l'incertitude. Pour contrer l’erreur, ces sur-optimistes se tournent vers les « best practices » ou les bonnes pratiques de gestion. Les Cassandre ont plutôt un penchant pour le désespoir et avancent que les projets sont voués à la contreperformance. Ils lient la dérive des projets à une distorsion systématique de la pensée logique, pointent du doigt « le biais » comme la source du mal, notamment le sur-optimisme et le mensonge stratégique. Pour en finir avec ce trouble du comportement, ces sur-pessimistes recommandent de « débiaiser » les prévisions des projets. Qui a raison ? Qui a tort ? Dans cet exposé, nous nous basons sur des études de cas de projets pour dépeindre leur performance à travers ces deux lectures comportementales.
This webinar introduces an article, “In Search of Project Management Principles”, recently published in the Project Management Journal, PMI’s research journal. The objective of the article is to determine whether a set of project management principles can be identified to serve as a common framework for developers and publishers of project management standards and guidelines. Twenty-two project management standards and other consensus documents were reviewed, revealing a common understanding across the globe of the requirements for effective project management. Potential statements of principles were extracted, clustered into four categories, and 12 principles were found to be common to multiple sources. These 12 principles were rewritten in a pre-specified, consistent form. The authors hope that this set of principles will serve as a common basis for future standards and guidelines on project management.
