Sustainability—the practice of changing how our organizations and society operate to live within the limits of nature while providing a high quality of life—is a rapidly growing field that needs people with PM expertise. Virtually all Fortune 100 corporations produce a sustainability report now; research has shown that companies pursuing sustainability typically have better stock prices; municipalities are pursuing sustainability goals; cleantech is now the largest area of venture capital. Sustainability has gone mainstream. Managing toward the triple bottom line (social, environmental and economic health) is becoming the expected norm. And project management professionals have so much to offer, for sustainability work in organizations is essentially project management and organizational change.
