Today, there is plenty of program/project management methodology around (Waterfall, PRINCE2, Agile, …). They all have 1 thing in common (which is also their biggest shortcoming): it’s essentially a “hard” approach: a combination of structures, steps, controls, procedures, KPIs … to make people do what they should do in the program/project.

The problem is that this is not the only way of generating drive, and that it can even be counterproductive when exaggerated. There is another type of drive, which should be activated as well, and which is “appetite for results” or “intrinsic motivation”: the desire to want something as a team, without even the need for structures, controls, procedures, etc. The more business and projects become complex, the more intrinsic motivation you need to activate as PMO, and the less effective all “hard” approaches will work.

We will explore a “PMO+” process and specific webtool to allow the “PMO+” (“+” stands for “hard” approach + intrinsic motivation) to trigger more “appetite” on top of the “hard” approaches that were chosen to drive the program to success.
