Just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing, also known as just-in-time production, is a methodology aimed primarily at reducing times within the production system as well as response times from suppliers and to customers. JIT is an emerging practice in resource management developed as a need to control for the scarce nature of critical resources.

JIT evolved from being a production philosophy aimed at reducing inventory cost alone to one focused on fully eliminating or minimizing waste. These are supply related issues that occur as a result of Just-in-Time production. Since the JIT concept eliminates inventory, the inability for one or more suppliers to deliver when needed would lead to a problem in the supply chain which might cause a big loss to the organization.
