Life, much like project management, rarely goes exactly as planned. As project leaders, we are well-versed in dealing with changes, uncertainties, and the need to adapt. Yet sometimes, our personal lives throw the biggest curveballs, testing our ability to manage unexpected situations.

I experienced this firsthand when I moved to a new country three months ago and had to start afresh. This journey has not only been a personal challenge, but has also enriched my professional perspective, reinforcing the idea that success often depends on our adaptability.

After spending four years in the Netherlands, I relocated to Uruguay to be closer to my family. This move was driven by personal reasons, yet it also demanded significant professional adjustments. Moving from a familiar environment to a new one meant that my carefully crafted plan had some surprises in store. The first step was to accept the change and embrace the new reality, much like in project management when external factors necessitate a shift in strategy.

The real test lies in the myriad small steps required to make a move, or any project, successful. From finding a place to live and furnishing it to create a new sense of home to navigating an unfamiliar job market, each day presented new challenges that demanded flexibility and adaptability.
