I am curious as to what is prompting this move you are about to make in your career. I have found in my travels through consulting circles, that the majority of people, who choose the entrepreneurial route are on one of two ends of a spectrum. You truly enjoy your current position and feel like you want to share your expertise with the world …you have a vision. Or you feel as though your potential goes beyond your current company’s ability to grow with you. Succession planning is not there or at least it will not be able to meet the skills you are developing at the speed of light. Whether your line of thinking is a match to one of these two extremes or somewhere in the middle, you have made one of the biggest decisions of your professional career, and it takes guts! Kudos to you!

Okay, so now that we have established that you are the greatest thing going, let’s assume you find yourself in the middle of selecting your first client project. We should review some of the "hot areas" you will want to address with your client. "Hot areas" by their very definition are areas that can make or break a project. You may have all of the skills necessary to make it successful, but if you don’t cover these areas, you could be in a losing situation before you begin.
