The projects where I work are actually going well. Now upper management has heard about Agile Alliance being acquired by PMI and wants us to change our processes. I’ve always gone by the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Should I go ahead and try to switch to agile, or should I talk to the CEO about letting us keep our current processes in place?
A. Despite the success of your current process, no one has ever come out ahead long term with their career by crossing paths with the “higher-ups” in the organization. Perhaps you can put in a few things that will make it appear you are using the “new” technique, while secretly keeping everything the same.
B. The reality is that not all parts of an organization can effectively work using the same project processes. The best success is when each department can choose what makes the most sense for them and then figure out a way to exchange information and coordinate timelines with other pertinent areas. This is not a blend; it is a “choose your own and then find a way to use your results with others” approach.
