You don’t have to look very far to find problems with artificial intelligence, even at the most basic level. I recently asked Google for the release date of an album that I knew was coming out soon. In response to me providing the band name, title, and “release date” in the search criteria, Google’s AI summary advised me that the album was released on a future date.

You wouldn’t think that it would be too difficult to get “was” and “will be” accurate, and mistakes like that undermine the confidence that we currently have in AI. Sure, it’s getting better, but we all recognize that it has a long way still to go.

However, I’m not sure that we always give it a fair chance of success.

Could you do what you are asking AI to do?
I recently spoke with an organization that said that they were considering shutting down their AI solutions in project delivery because they weren’t satisfied with the results that they were getting. This isn’t an unusual situation; some reports suggest that AI utilization is dropping off at a fairly significant rate, and as a fairly sudden shift. But I’m not sure that AI was to blame in their scenario.

I asked the PMO head to give me an example of the type of problems that they were seeing, and he showed me a risk list that was produced by their AI solution. It …
