We all laughed at the survey of American drivers that showed that the vast majority of drivers considered themselves "above average." It is, of course statistically impossible for so many to be above average. So it is funny, but it is shows just how people will misinterpret how well they are performing, even when their experience is the same as others. These images from the media and sports are not that instructive for workplace coaching. Workplace coaching is much more subtle, much more restrained and thoughtful. A coach is a facilitator and the project manager is the vital facilitator within a project.
When Coaching Is Needed
Coaching is typically the best intervention when a worker is not performing to standard or expectations. The problem can be with programming ability, supervisory ability, meeting deadlines, reporting quality, communications, almost anything. The problem
